Postdoctoral researcher (m/f/div)

The position is available from February 2025 but a later start date is possible. The position is offered for a period of 3 years, with a possibility of renewal based on an evaluation. We will also consider applicants who can take a three-year leave from their home institutions. The salary is based on the E13 salary scale of the collective agreement for the civil service (TVöD).

The Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) is an independent, international and interdisciplinary research institute. We focus on social science research on Eastern Europe and combine first-hand multi-method data collection with theory-led data analysis and a commitment to communicating research beyond the academic realm.

Qualifications and requirements:

  • A completed PhD in economics, development studies, sociology (with a focus on economic sociology) or political science (with a focus on comparative or international political economy)
  • Strong skills in quantitative social science research and data collection methods (e.g. statistical analysis or survey methodology), additional knowledge of qualitative methods is an asset
  • A concrete project idea that focuses on Russia’s economic development and economic policy-making
  • Additional research interests in the changing dynamics of Eurasian regionalism in the context of Russia’s war against Ukraine and/or Russia-China economic relations are an asset
  • Excellent written and spoken English and Russian; additional proficiency in a language spoken in the research region is an asset
  • Publication(s) in international journals with peer-review is an asset
  • Interest in working in a team and in an interdisciplinary research environment
  • Commitment to communicating research findings beyond the academic realm, in particular to policymakers and the wider public
  • Willingness to participate in the academic self-administration of the institute
