Since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion a large number of Ukrainians have moved abroad. As of May 2023, the highest overall number of Ukrainian refugees are based in Germany (about 27% of all externally dislpaced) directly followed by Poland (24%). The question who these people are, how many of them will return to Ukraine and what the economic consequences of different scenarios may be are highly relevant for Ukraine´s (economic) future. Drawing on data from two waves of sociological surveys in 2022 and 2023 and information from open sources, researchers from Centre of Economic Strategy have analysed these questions and published their results and estimates in two reports. In this online event, they will present key take aways from the project, laying a focus on Germany. In their analysis, they will also discuss which factors are linked with the return of Ukrainian refugees and how the non-return of a high number of Ukrainians is estimated to affect the Ukrainian economy.
