ZOiS Forum

The ZOiS Forum brings together academic, artistic, and political perspectives on the issues driving Eastern Europe today. Our aim is to make the significance and variety of our region of research accessible to a broad audience. Readings, discussions, presentations, and film screenings take place once a month during the semester.

The photo exhibition shows four places: Chervonohrad and Sambir on the Polish-Ukrainian border and Berehove and Uzhhorod on the Hungarian-Ukrainian border. It is part of the research project The Liberal Script in Ukraine's Contested Border Regions, which is being carried out within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence SCRIPTS.

This ZOiS Forum is part of the ‘Life in Dictatorships’ series organised by the Förderverein Gedenkstätte Berliner Mauer and asks what role (in)equality plays in the legitimisation of authoritarian regimes. The discussion focuses on the GDR, Belarus and Russia.

Taming the Garden documents the creation of a botanical park by and for Georgia's most powerful man. Commercial cinemas in Georgia refused to show the film, which was deemed ‘too political’. In conversation with director Salomé Jashi, we talk about (in)visible politics in Georgia.
