New Europe-Wide Research Network Launched

16/01/2024

In the new Emerging Russian Diasporas and Anti-war Movements (ERDAM) research network, researchers from various European countries will work together on war-induced migration from Russia with a particular emphasis on democratic and anti-war engagement in Russian migrant communities.

Since February 2022, Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine has prompted several waves of emigration from Russia. Raising urgent questions for European policymaking, these developments have highlighted a demand for academic expertise. Tsypylma Darieva and Tatiana Golova initiated the new interdisciplinary research network with this in mind. ERDAM will contribute to researching the role of Russian diasporas in peace processes, examining forms and infrastructures of mobilisation. It will also address the question of how new migrants influence transnational political dynamics between their country of origin and host countries.

ERDAM brings together researchers at different career stages at universities and research institutions in Armenia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway and Poland. The network engages in structured exchange, with regular thematic meetings and workshops flanked by work on joint publications and knowledge transfer.

ERDAM will also contribute to ZOiS’s international and national networking objectives and increase the institute’s visibility in the scientific and policymaking communities.
