A year after Russia launched a full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine, we will discuss one aspect of the huge migratory movements it has triggered – the flight of Russian citizens from the country in response to political repression or, more often, anticipated personal and collective risks. Together with several researchers, we will explore the logic, dynamics and different forms of Russian migrant movements and communities abroad. Of particular interest are questions of (re)building Russian civil society in the diaspora and the future of Russian activism – whether and how it can influence developments within the country and what it can contribute to anti-war efforts.
