09/10/2024

Several members of the ERDAM research network actively participated in the 2024 Congress of Central and East European Studies (CEECON), held on October 7–8, 2024. CEECON, the largest multidisciplinary congress on Central and Eastern Europe in the German-speaking world, offers a vital platform for discussing the latest research on the region. This year's event brought together scholars from various fields to explore topics from migration and diaspora activism to the impacts of war on society.

On October 7, during the session on Russian Migrant Activism, Tsypylma Darieva, from the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS) in Berlin, presented her research Diasporic Mobilization in a Time of Crisis: Perspectives of Russian Migrants’ Activism in Georgia. Tatiana Golova, also from ZOiS, contributed with her presentation Russian vs. Russian: Diasporization Projects by Anti-War vs. Pro-Kremlin Migrant Activists in Germany. Later that evening, Margarita Zavadskaya, from the Finnish Institute of International Affairs (FIIA), Helsinki, presented her work in a paper titled A Long Shadow of Autocracy: Russian IT Sector between Migration and Security in the session on Digital Diaspora.

On October 8, the second day of the conference, ERDAM members continued to lead important discussions. Tsypylma Darieva chaired two sessions: Migration to and from the South Caucasus and Religious Belonging in Georgia’s Religious Revival. Margarita Zavadskaya chaired a session titled War, Peace, and History across Borders.
