Navigating Memory Wars: Russian Migrants in Germany and the Kremlin’s Digital Influence
On April 2, from 4:00 to 5:30 PM (ET), our team members Félix Krawatzek and Sophia Winkler will speak at the Jordan Center for the Advanced Study of Russia at New York University about their current research on Russia’s use of historical narratives as a geopolitical tool.
Their talk focuses on how the Russian state distorts key historical events—such as World War II and the annexation of Crimea—to deliberately influence public opinion abroad, particularly among Russian-speaking communities. Their research examines how young people with Russian backgrounds in Germany (first and second generation) navigate conflicting historical narratives and offers of belonging.
The event will take place in a hybrid format.
