Contesting Borders/Shifting Orders: Russia's War of Aggression on Ukraine and Its Impact on Border-Making and Migration
Contesting Borders/Shifting Orders: Russia's War of Aggression on Ukraine and Its Impact on Border-Making and Migration
The war in Ukraine has far-reaching geopolitical, humanitarian and socio-cultural consequences - not only for Ukraine itself, but also for neighbouring countries, other European states and the European Union itself. In this public event, we will ask what migration and border studies can contribute to understanding the war and its consequences, and how they should be designed to address the new social challenges, especially with regard to migration processes. The event includes contributions from scholars and civil society activists from Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Serbia, and Ukraine.
The discussion will be organised around four panels/roundtables:
- Ethnicity and politics of identity
- B/orders in motion
- Global migration, diaspora and migrant integration
- Geopolitics of shifting b/orders and migration
The event is a multiplier event of the GLocalEAst project and will take place as part of the GLocalEAst Summer School Global Migration, Diaspora and Border Studies in East-Central Europe at the Viadrina Center B/ORDERS IN MOTION, European University Viadrina (September 5-16, 2022).
It is addressed to the academic public as well as to interested citizens and can be followed on site (Logensaal, European University of Viadrina) as well as online. The corresponding link will be sent after registration.
For participation (free of charge), please register until September 12, 2022.
