This event will be held in English.

Deportation from the three Baltic countries to Siberia under Soviet rule has shaped both individual lives and troubled collective memory. We talk to the translator of Dalia Grinkevičiūtė’s historical biographical notes and the author of a recent graphic novel on the experience of deportation. Together we will explore how memories of exile and trauma are passed down between generations, offering new perspectives on these historical experiences and their continued relevance in modern times.

Teilnehmer*innen

  • Vytene Muschick, translator of Dalia Grinkevičiūtė's Shadows on the Tundra (German: Aber der Himmel grandios)
  • Jurga Vilė, author of Siberian Haiku
  • Dr. Félix Krawatzek, political scientist at the Centre for East European and International Studies and PI on the ERC project MoveMeRU. He will discuss research that has studied how memories of displacement and deportation are transmitted between generations in Estonia.
  • Moderation: Prof. Dr. Gwendolyn Sasse, director at the Centre for East European and International Studies
